THE QUESTIONABLE FATE OF THE SELECTION OF OSTRMAN

Croatia News | prije 2 godine

At the recent Socca World Championship in indoor soccer, which took place in Budapest, the Croatian indoor soccer team did not experience the success it had hoped for.

With a total of two wins, one loss and one draw in a very difficult and challenging group, they were only one point away from advancing to the round of 16. However, Greece and Chile were the national teams that went from group B to the next phase of the competition.

This was the third World Championship organized under the auspices of the International Socca Federation. The first two years, in Lisbon and in Crete, Greece, our national team players were stopped in the round of 16. Accordingly, the coach changed, so instead of the then Dino Kovač, the strategist of the Croatian national team became Željko Ostrman from Bjelovar. The national team assembled by Ostrman for this championship had great potential, and many said that the best national team has been assembled so far. However, due to a lack of sporting luck, Croatia failed to advance beyond the group stage.

At the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Croatian Socca Minor Football Association, which took place after the World Championship, it was decided that the fate of the coach Ostrman will be discussed only in January, before the start of preparations for the next World Minor Football Championship, which will be held in Essen, Germany in 2023.

"We must emphasize that we are not satisfied with the results achieved in Budapest. Expectations were much higher, and the selector himself is aware of that. We agreed that big changes are necessary before the performance at the next world exhibition in Germany, but also that we will not rush to make a decision about who will lead the national team from the bench. There are several interested candidates, and it is possible that it will be Željko Ostrman again," said Vedran Prga on behalf of the Croatian Socca Minor Football Association.
